Professional Teaching Standards

Teachers are increasingly expected to participate in ongoing professional learning. Federal and State/Territory governments now require regular demonstrations of how teachers understand subject content and pedagogy, and how they work with colleagues to improve the learning space for students.

See below for the current requirements.

Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) - provides national leadership for the Commonwealth, state and territory governments in promoting excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership.

Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) - The Victorian Institute of Teaching is a statutory authority for the regulation of the teaching profession in Victoria.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work. The HTAV Office is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. These lands were never ceded. We pay our respect to their ancestors and Elders, past and present.

Please note: Members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities should be aware that the HTAV website may include images or names of people now deceased.
