Are we doing anything fun today Miss? Strategies for the Delivery of VCE Unit 1 Twentieth Century History
Agata Kula, The Grange P–12 College
British writer Vera Brittain once stated that ‘…at no previous period has mankind been faced by a half-century which so paradoxically united violence and progress.’ The sheer breadth and complexity of early Twentieth Century History can be challenging to even the most experienced history educator. This session will provide practical strategies for teachers traversing the multifaceted landscape of VCE Unit 1 Twentieth Century History (1900–1945). Focusing on practice rather than theory, the session will unpack each outcome and arm teachers with ‘ready-to-go’ learning activities which can be taken straight into the classroom as well as assessment strategies, ICT resources, exam preparation techniques and activities for explicit skill development.

Approaches to Teaching and Assessment: Multi-Modal Literacy in the History Classroom
Nick Frigo, Education Consultant
In this session Nick will explore the multi-modal opportunities available for teachers of VCE Unit 1 Twentieth Century History. The session will focus on the range of strategies available for immersing students into the areas they are studying and endeavouring to develop an empathy in students of the mindset of those from the past. This in turn help leads to deeper student learning and a readiness to think critically of the period of study.
